Doomsday Predictions
Will the Earth be Destroyed on 21 December 2012?
I do appreciate the thought provoking arguments of Archeology, Geology, Chemistry, Physical Science and Astronomy that points to a specific date that is not too far in the future, that is (21 December 2012). It is essential for man to ask the three questions:
- Who am I?
- Where have I been?
- Where am I going?
The 'Academic Community' has come along way since loosing the battle in the defense of 'Darwinian Evolution' (See ICR web link http://www.icr.org/article/racine-debate/). Scientists are now embracing the mathematical models of the 'Ancient Greeks', specifically the 'Archimedean Spiral'. Science teaches that the Universe is suffering a slow agonizing death by heat loss. But where is that energy? What happened to it? The Law of the Conservation of Energy has opened the door to other very interesting ideas like the elastic nature of the Universe, 'Worm Hole' space travel and 'Black Holes'. It does not answer the question concerning the origins, otherwise called Creation. Was the origin of planet Earth caused by the random 'bump and grid' dance of the Universe, or not? Or was the origin of the Universe a product of ‘Intelligent Design’? The one thing that everyone can agree on is that the Universe had definite beginning and will have a definite end. But when will that occur exactly? How will it happen?
Young Earth v. Old Earth Theories
The date of interest (21 December 2012) is Tevet 8, 5773 on the Hebrew Calendar, or roughly six thousand years from some point in the ‘Creation of the Universe’ by God, according to the Rabbinic interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. The problem with the ‘Young Earth’ Theory is that God is not a law breaker and the models of Physical Science are valid. So who is right?
Hold on to your hat, because you have finally found an Ordained Minister of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ who does not buy the ‘Young Earth’ Theory. While I appreciate the perspective of Ken Ham and the ICR, I simply do not agree. Let me emphasize that this disagreement has nothing to do with Salvation, or the Inerrancy of Scripture. It has everything to do with how Scripture is interpreted. My reasoning is found in Genesis 1:14-19 and 2 Peter 3:8. That is to say that God started the ‘Clock of the Universe’ on the ‘Fourth Day’ of the Creation and the time previous to the ‘Fourth Day’ is open for debate. How long it was exactly? A thousand years, three thousand years … a billion years … who can say? But the ‘Hebrew Calendar’ is absolutely critical to understand a second clock…or stop watch...that is about the deportations, a spiritual drought that lasted almost five centuries and the Messiah. So let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water, but let us reason together.
‘Underwater Archeology’ has uncovered something quite amazing. There are many finds of late in this field of study. The ruins in the Gulf of Khambhat that dates back to an “Ice Age” believed to be some 9,500 years ago. Near the Island of Yonaguni, off the Japanese coast, there are pyramids called Ziggurat that are believed to be twice as old as the oldest pyramid in Egypt, around the ‘Neolithic Period’ when people were hunters and gatherers, not builders. These pyramids are the of the step design found in ancient Assyria or Babylon. In Peru, Lake Titicaca, high in the Andes Mountains is found remains of an ancient city believed by local Indians to date back to the origin of the Universe. Not only do these man made structures predate what has formerly been accepted in the Archeological circles, but the legends and other ancient folklore that surround seem to point to some sort of outside help, or intervention. Religion would call these helpers Angels, while others would call them Aliens. In any event, we can all agree that something extra ordinary … something supernatural (from the Human perspective) did occur in the ‘Ancient World’, which supports the ‘Old Earth Theory’.
Note: Daniel 9:25 refers to the starting of that clock with the decree of Artaxerxes on 30 March 457 BCE (Neh. 2:1). The completion date of the project is found in Nehemiah 6:15, the 25th day of Elul (2 October 445 BCE).
Asteroids and Other Cataclysmic Events
Astronomers and Geologists are talking about cataclysmic events that they believe coincide with the 21 December 2012 date. Asteroid (243 IDA) “Toutatis” is a huge asteroid that is presently considered to be a NEO or Near Earth Object (see website http://ddig.wordpress.com/2008/07/07/asteroid-toutatis-approaches-earth-on-december-12-2012/). Although the present path of this asteroid causes us to be concerned, we should not fear because what we are really talking about is a path that is over 4 million miles from an impact on Planet Earth. The Asteroid Apopis will follow a path that is much closer to impact at 21,500 miles or so in April 2027. However, there is solar activity that threatens to change the Earth’s magnetic field. Scientists predict that scorching of the Earth’s surface and wobble effect could bring extreme heat followed by extreme changes in the climatology of the Earth. Also associated with this kind of event are the vast array of “Mega-Disasters” like Tsunami, super-volcano eruptions, earthquakes and the like. NASA issued a Solar Storm Warning dated March 10, 2006 that predicts an event late in 2012 (see website http:// www.solar-storm-warning.com/). But not everyone agrees on the issue of this threat from the Sun. The opinion that I have formed from reading the various articles is that the next cycle of the Sun will bring events that are quite a show, but nothing of a destructive nature to the Earth. There are no unusual astronomical events predicted for 2012 according to the Sea and Sky Astronomers Reference Guide (see website http://www.seasky.org). However, there will be changes and fluctuations to radiation partials and corresponding waves. Higher than normal EMF, electro magnetic field will be observable.
Most people these days were born into the “Atomic Age” with all the possible man made catastrophes that are associated with the peace time use of atomic energy, as well as living under the threat of nuclear holocaust. The possibilities of naturally ordered events and situations caused by mankind that lead to disaster are quite possible on a day to day basis. Oil Shock” predictions for 2012 say that the World’s Oil Market will be the tightest in history (see website http://www.energybulletin.net/stories/2011-02-14/commentary-oil-shock-2012). Some describe shortages at crisis levels, which if followed to its logical conclusion is war. One television show I was watching about oil rigs and production pointed to the December 2012 date. There is a concern from Medical Science about world-wide pandemic. The WHO, World Health Organization, is currently in a high state of readiness alert status for the H1N1 virus (Influenza). This alert remains in effect since 2011. The Federal Budget has factored in the medical response to this medical emergency, which ends in FY 2012. I am sure the list is longer, but here is the point. If we obsess about the ‘what ifs’, then we will miss all the blessings, struggles and possibilities of the gift that was made ours….life. We see that reoccurring date pop up in Academia, Industry and Medical Science. Are these actual roadmaps to the end of the world?
That Reoccurring Date
False prophets, astrologers, secret societies and ancient cultures have identified a date that ends a cycle of the heavenly spheres. The Galactic Coordinate System (GCS) is a model that makes it possible to assign two dimensional coordinates for a body in space. It supposes that the Sun is the point of origin. A line is drawn through the apparent center of the ‘Milky Way’ Galaxy and a perpendicular line at the Sun to form the ‘Galactic Equator’. Celestial bodies are plotted by position angle with the Sun as the vertex. The Equatorial Coordinate System (ECS) was developed from this concept by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1958. This system is slightly more refined by introducing the concepts of right ascension and declination. The Planet Earth is a geoid, not a perfect sphere, which has a slight wobble from pole to pole. Remember the wobble in the discussion above? If the wobble is slight, the wobble effect is minimal. Right now the climates across the earth are pretty constant. But if the wobble would increase, then there would most definitely observable changes in climatology across the globe. The term ‘Galactic Alignment’ refers to the ‘Celestial Equator’, or the plane of the rotation of the Earth aligning precisely with the ‘Galactic Equator’ at the time of the solstice(s) to form the same plane. This event occurs about every 26,000 years, according to astronomers. This is the point at which the Mayan ‘Long Calendar’ ends. What is interesting is that there has been no planetary alignment projected for this same period. However, scientists have made a case for a ‘Black Hole’, which is the collapse of a star that has both a super high density and gravitational pull, that is verifiable in the ‘Milky Way’ and not a threat to Planet Earth. This is where then venue changes from Science to Religion.
Mayan Prophecy
It is this ‘Fifth World Age’ that is of interest. The Mayan believed that the passage through the ‘Dark Rift’ would end one ‘World Age’ marking the final 5125 years cycle and awaken Kukulkan, also called Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent god). There are some very striking parallels in religion, time frames and architecture. The recorded history of mankind begins roughly 5,000 years ago, according to what we currently know about Archeology. Religion has preserved bona fide literary evidence that supports the finding of Archeology. Pyramids in Peru and Egypt are very similar in construction and purpose, although they are geographically separated by thousands of miles. The theme of good verses evil transcends time and space, also with the idea that there is a resurrection through a god-man that is represented by someone that we would consider to appear to us moderns as European. Since the new underwater finds are presently subject to conjecture and require further thought processing and our present age seems to be on a collision course with eternity, we must conclude what we hold to be historically true as fact. If we look at the incredible coincidences across the board of the history of mankind we must conclude that the predicted coming of a ‘New World Age’ is about cosmic energy driving spiritual events that play out in the natural and become history.
False Prophets
Many people have claimed to know the future. Some call these people seers, while others call them prophets. The Old Testament for such a person as this is no less than 100% accuracy, otherwise they we to be killed. Even today, with all our technical knowledge and equipment, we are not able to predict the weather with 100% accuracy. We see trends and observe patterns and then we form an opinion as to what will occur. Many people in our day hold to the works of the Frenchman called Nostradamus, who wrote down quatrains that were to illuminate future events with the sincere hope that catastrophic events might be avoided. However, the degree of accuracy required to be considered a prophet is not proven by these quatrains, especially for any of the antichrists. For example, Pau Nay Loron is not enough to prove Napoleon Bonaparte; Hister is not enough to prove Hitler; and the term “MABUS” is not good enough to prove the names George W. Bush and Osama-bin-laden. What we do see in these quatrains is a brilliant mind at work. Someone that is able to see the observable patterns of history and predict the frequency of the archetypes associated with those patterns in future epics with enough accuracy to be believed as prophecy. However, Nostradamus would not pass the litmus test for a prophet.
There have been many other people that claimed to know what history would write. Some of these claimed the world would end during the administration of a certain Pope in the 1960’s, while others wrote what they truly believed would occur and failed. All one really has to do is read the failed prophetic predictions of the ‘Watch Tower’ Society.
Conspiracy Theories and Secret Societies
The ushering in of a ‘New Age’, or ‘New World Order’, is another theme that could soon become a reality. The ‘Georgia Guide Stones’ are evidence enough that mankind is reaching a sort of critical mass and we are overdue for a ‘Mega Disaster’. It does not matter whether that disaster occur as result of the carelessness of man, or naturally ordered. Those ‘Guide Stones’ stare us in the face, as if they were the last words to be uttered by mankind, and we sense the end is near.
There are many contrived issues that tend to draw our attention away from an interesting string of thoughts. That is that we have been bombarded with false gospels and codes. Some people have even suggested that the Apostle Paul was a ‘Roman Spy’ in order to derail Christianity. In the meantime, it is true that each World Religion makes the assertion that they are the only correct faith. However, most agree that ‘Intelligent Design’ is observable. For many, this has become a very sophisticated ‘Primrose Path’.
The Templar Knights were a unique order of ‘Military Clerics’ that operated independently from the Vatican. They were best known for securing Jerusalem for the safe and peaceful pilgrimages of the faithful in Europe to visit the Holy Land. Over time, the Templar Knights became powerful in terms of finance, artifacts and other treasure. However, these brave and faithful knights were defeated in the Crusades and returned to Europe. Since they observed the failure in Palestine to be directly related to moral issues, they sought ways to insure that only the pure hearted would be considered suitable for service. Secret rites were used for induction initiations and formed an ecclesiastical domain apart from that of Rome. Pope Clement V sought to eliminate the Templar Knights first from France on Friday the 13th, October, 1307 and then throughout Europe as heretics. Some of the Templar Knights were integrated with the ‘Order of Hospitallers’; also known as the Malta Knights or the ‘Sovereign Order of St. John’. It is thought that the assets of the Templar Knights followed this group, as forming a financial foundation. However, there is reason to believe that some of the Templar Knights fled Europe and found their way to Scotland and other parts of the United Kingdom, along with significant financial resources, as well as sacred artifacts. It is thought that William Sinclair, 3rd Earl of Orkney, was instrumental in preserving the Templar Order through Freemasonry and founded Rosslyn Chapel for that purpose.
